What Mary’s Faith in Luke 1 Taught Me

While reading Luke 1 during my Bible study journey, something about Mary’s response to the angel Gabriel stood out to me.

Mary was told something that would change her life completely—that she would give birth to the Son of God. Naturally, this was unexpected, and she did ask a question about how it would happen. But what stood out to me is that her question wasn’t rooted in disbelief. It seemed to come from a place of wanting to understand.

What followed was faith.

Mary didn’t argue with the angel. She didn’t reject what was being said. She didn’t demand proof. Instead, she accepted what was told to her and allowed everything to unfold according to God’s plan.

Reading this made me think about the difference between questioning for understanding and questioning out of doubt. Mary shows that it’s okay to wonder how something will happen, but faith means still trusting God even when the full picture isn’t clear.

In many ways, her response feels like a form of blind faith. She trusted God with something she could not fully explain or control.

That kind of faith is challenging, but it’s also inspiring. Sometimes we are asked to trust before we see how things will work out. Mary’s response reminds me that faith often means believing that God’s plan is unfolding even when we don’t understand every step.
