“Fall Break Has Begun… and So Has the Drama”

Let fall break commence. It’s only day one and I’m already trying to understand why my 4-year-old needs a fall breakfrom Pre-K 4. I mean, I know teachers need their rest (and honestly, they deserve it because I know my child can be a handful). He can be helpful, sweet, understanding — and then bam! a little monster takes over. Thankfully, not so much at school.

I owe my mom an apology because I was a chatterbox growing up, always talking, always asking questions — and now I’ve been blessed with a mini version of myself. But let me tell you… he is dramatic.

So today, I asked him (for the tenth time) to stop sitting, standing, and jumping on the new couch. His response?
“Fine! I guess you don’t like me anyway!”

WAIT, WHAT?! How did a simple redirection turn into an emotional spiral? I had to stop, chuckle, and take a deep breath because that was not the response I saw coming.

“Sir,” I told him, “it’s a new couch. Atticus completely destroyed the last one, and I’m not about to repeat history. You can’t sit on the arm, back, or jump on it. If you want to tumble, go to your crash pillow in your room.”

His response?
“I can’t tumble on my crash pillow because all my stuffed animals will fall on the floor.”

So the stuffed animals get more respect than my couch? Got it.

By the end of the day, I needed a quiet moment to myself. But honestly? We survived day one of fall break. No major meltdowns, no chaos (okay, not much), and his dramatic moments were short-lived.

I’m just curious — what will the rest of the week bring?
